Welcome to the National First Ladies’ Library online curriculum. This project is an exciting and unique addition to the First Ladies’ Education and Research Center’s website.

The curriculum includes a variety of types of lessons plans focusing on history and including First Ladies. The lesson plans meet both National and State standards and those standards are listed with each lesson plan. They also link to an explanation of those standards.

In addition our lesson plans link to a timeline which should prove invaluable for educators. This timeline includes: science/medicine/inventions/technology; Education/arts/letters/ideas; Law/politics/government/war; sports/popular culture; economics/discover/ daily life; notable births/deaths and lives of the First Ladies.

We provide lesson plans for all grade levels: Elementary, Middle School and Secondary. You may search on a First Lady, a grade level, a category or standards to find plans. Please note the icons with each lesson plan that give further explanations. Using the toggle key you will be able to access the key/legend for all these choices.

This curriculum is provided free of charge by the National First Ladies’ Library and you are welcome to download the plans and any related work sheets or handouts.

This is an ongoing project scheduled for completion in June 2007. New First Ladies are continually being added and more lesson plans posted so check back frequently.

We welcome suggestions and questions. Please contact research library director: Martha Regula at regulam@firstladieslibrary.org 330-452-0876 ex 303.

Lesson Plans are written by Averil McClelland, Bette Brooks, Marian Maxfield and Debra L. Clark, all of Kent State University, Kent, Ohio. Other educators throughout the country also contribute lesson plans.
